Blue Spruce

Return to Pruning

Colorado Blue Spruce is a popular landscape choice.  Avoid planting them in front of or too close to your house.  When they reach the maximum size for the location, they can be pruned back to maintain that size.

Usually spruces are trimmed one foot off the ground to allow for removal of leaves and debris.  Some situations may require trimming five feet off the ground.  Consider adding boulders and small plants under the tree.

Spruce branches, like most evergreens, will not regrow if you cut into the dead zone.  You will end up with a dead stub that will need to be removed.
