Scarlet oaks have shiny dark green leaves and brilliant red fall foliage.  Combine them with pines, purple plums, and sunburst locust for colorful landscapes.

Scarlet oaks are relatively free of diseases and insects.  Aphids can be a minor problem, dripping sap on cars and walks.  Spraying or systemic insecticides will control the problem.

Allow plenty of room for growth.  Oaks can grow to be large trees and should be planted at least 15 feet from buildings.  Roots are rarely a problem.
